Rep. DeGette to Discuss SCHIP and Rep. Cuellar to Receive Award
Who: On Tuesday, June 12, the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), the world’s only dental association that exclusively represents the needs and interests of general dentists, will host a breakfast briefing on Capitol Hill to celebrate the second day of its first ever advocacy conference in Washington, D.C.

-Rep. Henry Cuellar will receive an award from AGD from 8 - 8:30 a.m. ET
-Rep. Diana DeGette will be the Keynote speaker from 9 – 9:30 a.m. ET

Why: Rep. Cuellar will receive an award for scoring 100 percent on the AGD Scorecard, which measures the support of legislators for issues of importance to the dental profession during the 109th Congress. Rep. DeGette will discuss reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and other oral health issues.
Meeting News Nuggets: During the conference, more than 70 general dentists from across the country will conduct over 125 meetings with Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill. Their objectives during these meetings will be to discuss the AGD’s major legislative priorities for 2007 such as:
-The reauthorization of the SCHIP with added dental care legislative language;
-Increasing funding levels of Title VII Health Professions programs to Fiscal Year 2005 levels; and
-Co-sponsorship and the enactment of the Children’s Dental Health Improvement Act.
