Parkell recently introduced MucoHARD – a hard denture reline material that is expressed from an automix cartridge using a conventional impression gun.
The material reportedly allows complete chairside relines within a traditional 20-minute appointment.
Using a handpiece, the dentist or assistant removes 1-2 mm of acrylic from the area to be modified, and applies the MucoHARD bonding liner. When the liner has dried, MucoHARD is expressed onto the surface, and the denture seated in the mouth. After 5 minutes the prosthesis is removed … allowed to bench-set for 2-minutes … and then returned to the mouth for the final 2-minute set. The prosthesis is then trimmed and polished as usual.
According to Parkell, its translucent pink shade blends well with virtually any shade of denture material; however, the system is designed to work with acrylic dentures only – not nylon dentures such as Flexite® or Valplast®.
The MucoHARD kit costs $49.95 and includes a 50ml cartridge of reline material, 15ml of bonding liner plus mixing tips, brushes etc. According to Parkell, the kit supplies sufficient material for about 3 maxillary or 5 mandibular relines.
