4-META-Based Endodontic Sealer

4-META-Based Endodontic Sealer Bonds to Dentin & Gutta Percha
Posted: January 4, 2007
MetaSEAL (WinCE).jpgParkell recently introduced MetaSEAL, a self-etch resin sealer that bonds via hybridization to radicular dentin, gutta percha and resin points.
This new 4-META adhesive was developed by the same team of chemists who created Parkell’s Brush&Bond self-etch bonding agent.  It is said to be compatible with any cold RCT technique – from classic lateral condensation to single-point obturation.
MetaSEAL does not require acid-etching or a separate priming step. The dentist simply coats the point and canal before seating. MetaSEAL’s unique catalyst seeks out the moisture within the dentin, so polymerization initiates within the canal walls. As it slowly polymerizes, additional material is drawn toward the dentin to create a dense continuous hybrid seal.
The material is dual-cure, so immediately after obturation the dentist can light-cure the surface to create an instant coronal seal.
MetaSEAL is said to be highly biocompatible.  It demonstrates extremely low cytotoxicity and zero detectable intradermal/dermal sensitivity.  If a puff of sealer is extruded out the apex, it will not impair healing.
The MetaSEAL kit costs $119.95 and contains enough material for approximately 50-75 mixes.  It comes with a three-month risk-free trial.
