Pankey Institute Names New Chairman

Steve Ratcliff, D.D.S. is the newly appointed Chairman of Education at The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Key Biscayne, FL. A 1978 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry, he established a private comprehensive restorative practice in Westlake, Ohio and served as a clinical instructor and guest lecturer at the Case Western University School of Dentistry for many years. Dr. Ratcliff joined the visiting faculty of The Pankey Institute in 1995, became the Institute’s Clinical Director in 2002, and was appointed Director of Academic Affairs in 2003. Dr. Ratcliff is a member of the ADA, AGD, American College of Dentists, American Equilibration Society, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of Osseointegration, and American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. He became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry in 1993.
The Pankey Institute’s former Chairman of Education, Irwin M. Becker, D.D.S., said, “After 22 years as Chairman, I am transitioning to a new role where I will spend more time with students. I will continue to make presentations, mentor, coach and write for the Institute.” Dr. Becker earned his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1969, served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, attained his Board eligibility from the Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry in Periodontal Prosthodontics, and served as Chairman of Periodontal Prosthesis of the Dade County Dental Research Clinic and Chairman of the Crown and Bridge section of the Mount Sinai General Dentistry. In 1984, he was appointed Chairman of Education at The Pankey Institute. In 1986, he was also appointed Clinical Associate Professor of the University of Florida. Dr. Becker’s memberships and awards are numerous. In 2005, he received the Academy of General Dentistry’s highest honor, the Dr. Thaddeus V. Weclew Award, for exceptional contributions to the art and science of dentistry and promoting the AGD’s principles and ideals.
