Sirona Dental Systems, the world’s leading full-line dental equipment manufacturer, announced today that it has sold its 3000th ORTHOPHOS XG ® imaging system, just five months after celebrating its 2000th sale.  Today, Sirona also announces the next generation in Pan/Ceph digital imaging with its ORTHOPHOS XG Plus system, featuring several major enhancements in the XG system hardware and its SIDEXIS ® technology.  With these enhancements in functionality, versatility and automation, the ORTHOPHOS XG product line, using Sirona’s patented SIDEXIS XG software, has earned its position as the leading digital panoramic unit in the United States, with a rate of sales far exceeding projections.

“The excitement and enthusiasm we hear from dental professionals about our ORTHOPHOS XG product line is phenomenal”, said John Smithson, marketing director for Sirona USA Imaging Systems.  “Their feedback drives our product evolution, and we listen.  As a result, we now offer exceptional new functionality to the market in the areas of cross sectional TSA imaging program selections, and SIDEXIS automation technology,” added Smithson.

As part of its continuous development process, Sirona introduces a new version of the XG firmware and a new version of the SIDEXIS XG software (v1.6), available immediately.  With the new version, Sirona increases the ORTHOPHOS XG Plus’ unique cross section tomography capability (TSA-Transversal Section Acquisition) by now offering the ability to select various layer thicknesses – 2, 6 or 8 mm – for transverse section images of premolars and molars.  These cross sectional TSA images allow for clear diagnostic views of the tooth and bone structure in the implant or extraction areas being assessed.  Sirona has also integrated new functionality for the EasyPad ® full color touch screen/display. This functionality improves patient positioning guidance and further simplifies the control of the unit. As always the EasyPad also provides an immediate view of the exposure just after it is taken. This helps to reduce steps and verify high quality images immediately while the patient is still in the unit,

In addition to using the new TSA functionality, dental practitioners can take advantage of additional Pan and Ceph sectional programs that allow for more specific exposures and allow for the reduction of X-ray exposure to the patient. These new features work in conjunction with the current XG Plus functions to provide a viable and cost-effective alternative to computed tomography (CT) or digital volume technology (DVT).

The enhanced SIDEXIS XG 1.6 software features unparalleled integration and auto-update capabilities.  With simplified central installation using advanced Windows MSI technology, users can now designate a single PC as the “master”, while additional PCs are installed as “clients with minimal user interaction”.  This saves significant time when integrating the software into large-scale networks.  In addition, a new auto-update function enables the automatic download of patches and updates from the Internet, which are then distributed across the network automatically.  Finally, to ensure efficient ongoing data management, Sirona has converted the MS Access database (PDATA) to MS SQL Server 2005 Express.  All existing user databases will convert to the new server technology automatically upon installation of the new SIDEXIS version.

“The XG Plus system and the SIDEXIS software work in concert to deliver the planning, presentation and visualization tools essential for complete patient treatment,” said Smithson.  “The market has embraced the value inherent in our ORTHOPHOS XG product line.  And delivering solutions that truly add value – that make a lasting impact – is what Sirona is all about.”
