Ivoclar Vivadent, Inc. announces the introduction of a new layering ceramic for IPS Empress®2 frameworks – IPS Eris™. The new IPS Eris is a fluorapatite layering glass ceramic with dilithium oxide (Li20) crystals. IPS Eris has improved density and laboratory handling characteristics as a result of a homogeneous sintering process. With its low firing temperature, IPS Eris provides superior compatibility with the lithium disilicate framework. Although it can be adhesively placed (with Variolink® II resin cement), IPS Eris’ high strength and the close fit of its pressed ceramic substructure makes it ideally indicated for the simplified conventional cementation method using conventional glass ionomers (e.g. Vivaglass Cem) or zinc phosphate cements as confirmed through numerous clinical studies.
The IPS Eris system utilizes the proven IPS Empress fabrication method of a pressed substructure layered with glass ceramic for optimal esthetics. All IPS Empress Laboratories will have the IPS Eris available to them with special training throughout the first quarter of 2002.
