Traci Wilgus, PhD, has joined the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics.
Dr. Wilgus previously was a Research Associate/Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. Luisa DiPietro at Loyola University Medical Center in the Surgery and Burn & Shock Trauma Institute. Dr. DiPietro also recently joined the UIC College of Dentistry.
Dr. Wilgus currently is part of two fellowships: one through the National Institute of General Medical Sciences entitled “VEGF-induced angiogenesis and scar formation” and the other through the Wound Healing Foundation entitled “VEGF receptor signaling in dermal fibroblasts: implications for scarring.”
She has experience in teaching and mentoring and has presented at many seminars. This May, she will present at the Symposium for Advanced Wound Care Meeting.
Among her many awards and honors, Dr. Wilgus has received the American Society for Investigative Pathology Merit Award and the Farber Travel Award to attend the Montana Symposium on the Biology of Skin. Dr. Wilgus has published over 20 abstracts and currently has 11 publications in press.
“My research is focused on fetal wound healing, which is a scarless, regenerative process, so I’m excited about being at UIC as part of the Center for would Repair and Regeneration,” Dr. Wilgus said. “I believe this environment will bring about unique opportunities to interact with other people in the field of wound healing/regeneration, and this is the type of atmosphere that fosters truly innovative research.”
