Aribex of Orem, Utah has contracted Aseptico of Woodinville, Washington to be the exclusive distributor of the NOMAD hand-held x-ray system in the portable, public health, humanitarian and government markets world-wide. “We are very excited in working with Aseptico in the area of portable dental applications” said Clark Turner, Ph.D., inventor of the NOMAD and president of Aribex. Aseptico is a leader in the design and manufacture of a complete line of portable dental equipment.
Aseptico is in the process of becoming the manufacturing partner with Aribex of a version of the NOMAD hand-held x-ray (ARU-06CE). This new partnership will permit the NOMAD to be sold in Canada, Europe and many other countries throughout the world. This version of the NOMAD should be available in early 2006. Currently, the NOMAD is FDA 510(k) and UL approved, making it available for the American market.
The NOMAD x-ray system is unique in that it is powered via rechargeable battery packs, similar to those used in cordless drills. The x-ray is light-weight and has internal and external shielding which allows the operator to safely take the x-ray exposure while standing next to the patient. The system is available in a sturdy travel case with pull-up handle and wheels, making it ideal for portable dentistry.
Following the tsunami disaster that struck Southeast Asia on December 26, 2004, the NOMAD x-ray was used in the Disaster Victim Identification efforts of international forensic pathology teams. Thousands of victims have been identified and repatriated using post-mortem dental x-rays. More recently, Aseptico purchased several NOMAD units for use in the Gulf States following the hurricane Katrina disaster.
