MicroDental Laboratories, the world’s leading cosmetic dentistry laboratory and makers of industry-leading MAC Veneers™, today announced that the company will be offering the most advanced dental scanning technology available, Imaging Science’s i-CAT™ 3-D Cone Beam dental imaging, at its headquarters in California later this month. Dentists and their staff in the Greater Bay Area are invited to preview the i-CAT scanning service, speak to the experts at MicroDental and learn more about implant dentistry at an open house hosted at MicroDental Laboratories, 5601 Arnold Road, Dublin, California, from 6-8 pm on Thursday, September 16th.
By offering local dentists the i-CAT™ scanning service, MicroDental Laboratories is helping tosignificantly advance patient care, and foster far closer doctor/patient/lab communication through the immediate sharing of three-dimensional reconstructed images and comprehensive treatment planning. MicroDental’s i-CAT scans capture the most accurate information on the anatomy of a patient’s mouth, face, and jaw areas – differing from conventional two dimension x-ray film, revealing true 3-D imaging capabilities, which allow for far more accurate and predictable treatment outcomes. The 20-second scan time minimizes a patient’s exposure to radiation. Doctors who send their implant patients to MicroDental to be scanned can then work closely with the lab to create the optimal dental implant treatment plan. Using these 3-D scans, doctors can show their patients a virtual diagnosis, so they can better understand their treatment options. Also, i-CAT scans allow MicroDental technicians to be fully involved with the case, starting at the diagnostic stage through the surgical placement of implants guided by CT-derived templates, culminating in the final restoration. These state-of-the-art tools enable a higher level of communication and true collaboration with the doctor, patient and surgeon for the best possible results. [SDG1]
"MicroDental is dedicated to consistently being first in bringing best-in-class technology to our doctors, and to furthering the field of dentistry," said Fred Walke, CEO, MicroDental Laboratories. "Providing our dentists with i-CAT scanning services helps them stay at the forefront of advanced implant dentistry, and is an example of our ongoing commitment to supporting their practices, as well as to industry innovation."
Using the i-CAT scans, doctors can determine if implants are a viable option, and can detect and evaluate potential problems before they become serious, such as: bone and jaw deformities, changes to the jaw, cysts, tumors and disease. By understanding pre-existing conditions and working with 3-D images, the doctor can create a virtual map of the procedure and determine the specific placement of implants using a specialized software program. In addition, the technology enables doctor, patient and laboratory to pre-visualize the aesthetic result, and tailor it as needed.
"My new motto for implant dentistry is ‘It is not the scan, it’s the plan,’ so when the laboratory can generate the 3-D images and be part of the treatment planning process, everyone benefits," Dr. Scott D. Ganz, a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist, who has pioneered the development of CT scan use in implant dentistry and an Associate Clinical Professor of Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry at the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. "A CT-generated plan that permits the optimal placement and restoration of implants via surgical guides, virtually eliminates the problem of misplaced implants. It makes implant dentistry far more predictable, which will eventually result in higher volumes of implants placed, and potentially reduces the cost for the patient."
Spearheading this project at Micro Dental Laboratories, Frank-Charles Pope III, Director of Implant Business, worked closely with top nationally recognized dentists to develop a scanning service that will enable doctors to take the implant process to the next level. This innovation allows sophisticated planning to guide the entire process to a successful end result.
