Sunstar Foundation Announces World Dental Hygienists Award

The Sunstar Foundation, in cooperation with the International Federation of Dental Hygienists (IFDH), has established a new award designed to “recognize dental hygienists who make a significant contribution to the oral health community, their profession, or the general public. The award is offered every three years in three categories: research, contribution to promotion of oral health, and the dental hygiene student’s award.

The first award will be granted to a research paper of any theme. The second award will be given for a report that describes the applicant’s prominent contribution to patients, the oral health community, and the general public. Applicants for the dental hygiene student’s award must submit either an essay on dental hygiene, or a report on volunteer work they have performed.

Hygienists can apply by submitting an unpublished manuscript of no more than eight pages excluding photo’s and references. The winning manuscript will be published in IFDH’s publication International Journal of Dental Hygiene. Cash prizes will be awarded the winners in all three categories. First place garners $5,000, second $3,000, and third $2,000, as well as a commemorative trophy.
