QUAD-TRAY® Xtreme™

New aluminum impression tray eliminates retakes and occlusal adjustment time

Clinician’s Choice® Dental Products Inc. today unveiled its new, aluminum construction, dual-arch impression tray. Branded the QUAD-TRAY® Xtreme™ because of its extreme accuracy, the tray boasts a range of new proprietary design features that will significantly improve the ease and accuracy of dual-arch impression taking.

The entire frame of the QUAD-TRAY Xtreme is constructed of dead-soft aluminum so it can’t flex or distort upon entry, or removal from the patient’s mouth. This rigidness ensures the dentist will get a perfectly accurate impression with virtually no risk of tray distortion, and consequent prosthetic misfits. A second advantage is the low sidewall and wide arch design, which prevent palate impingement, or axial roll of the tray walls. The walls can be widened or narrowed to custom-fit the patient’s individual arch size.

The QUAD-TRAY Xtreme is also unique in that the mesh is attached at the distal wall for better support of the impression material. This modification ensures the material flows around the distal wall to form a secure lock between the tray and the material. The lingual wall has been shortened to better fit small mouths, but the mesh area has been extended at the mesial edge to enable the dentist to impress, or access more teeth.

Enhancements have also been made to the distal wall, which is 25% thinner than that of the original QUAD-TRAY design. This reduced thickness further minimizes the risk of palatal impingement, explains Clinician’s Choice President, Mr. Peter Jordan. “With dual arch impressions, a common cause of tray distortion is impingement of the tray’s distal bar on the retro molar pad. Simply put, when the patient closes with the tray in place, the slightest impingement in this area will cause the lingual wall of the tray to deflect, distorting the impression tray. Upon opening – and release of the deflection-causing pressure – the lingual wall of the tray will often rebound, causing a distorted impression and subsequently, a malfitting crown or bridge.”

“The new QUAD-TRAY Xtreme has a tapered distal bar. With a 25% reduction in thickness compared to the original QUAD-TRAY, this new bar design further eliminates the risk of impingement in the retro molar pad area, and ensures an accurate impression for every patient, regardless of arch shape and design.”

Another key enhancement with the QUAD-TRAY Xtreme is the addition of two upper and two lower retention bars along the inside of the buccal and lingual walls of the tray. These retention bars help lock the impression material to the tray, preventing material dislodgment and ensuring the accuracy of the impression is maintained.

Like its predecessor, the QUAD-TRAY Xtreme is a single-use disposable tray. It is available in convenient 50-pack, 100-pack, and 250-pack sizes and comes backed by the manufacturer’s 30-day, Try-It Guarantee. The QUAD-TRAY Xtreme costs only a few cents more than plastic impression trays.

The original QUAD-TRAY was introduced to the dental industry by Clinician’s Choice Dental Products Inc. in 1996, and quickly revolutionized the way in which dual-arch impressions could be taken due to its ease of use and superior accuracy.
