New Jersey Prosthodontist Awarded Fellowship in American College of Dentists and Recognition by the American College of Prosthodontists for Founding and Directing Their Education Center Kenneth Hilsen, D.D.S.,F.I.C.D, of Ridgewood Dental Associates was awarded Fellowship in the American College of Dentists during the recent Annual ADA Meeting and Convocation in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Hilsen was the only Ridgewood dentist to receive this special recognition this year, and one of only 16 dentists from New Jersey out of the more than 260 recognized worldwide this year.
On Oct. 28th he was also recognized by the American College of Prosthodontists at their Annual luncheon in Los Angeles; he was honored for his tireless work for the past four years as Founder and Director of the ACP Center for Prosthodontic Education. The mission of the Center is to provide the highest quality continuing education programs related to the specialty and discipline of prosthodontics; it strives to promote the specialty of prosthodontics and elevate the knowledge and skills of all dental professionals in the discipline of prosthodontics.
Dr. Kenneth Hilsen has practiced dentistry as a prosthodontist for over 30 years. A prosthodontist is one of the nine specialties recognized by the ADA and involves three years of additional training after dental school. Prosthodontists are specialists in the restoration and replacement of teeth with combinations of crowns, bridges, implants, laminates or dentures. Dr. Hilsen is an innovator in the field of dental sleep medicine and holds three patents on oral appliances for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea.
Dr. Hilsen is affiliated with the sleep centers at Holy Name Hospital and Pascack Valley Hospital . He has worked with many sleep physicians in the area and has lectured at such institutions as NYU, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Hilsen has been active for years in the professional organization, The American College of Prosthodonists, including serving as President of the New Jersey Section. Besides being the Founder and Director of their Center for Prosthodontic Education, hee has been the recipient of the ACP’s Distinguished Service Award, one of the highest awards of recognition in his field. Besides being a member of many professional dental organizations, he was invited to become a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, an honorary organization for his many contributions in the field of dentistry.
The American College of Dentists was founded in 1920 to recognize dentists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of dentistry. The mission of the American College of Dentists is to promote excellence, ethics and professionalism in dentistry. Fellowship in the College is by invitation and based on demonstrated leadership and contributions to the dental profession and society. Approximately 3.5% of dentists are Fellows of the American College of Dentists.
