The New Xbowä Appliance

The New Xbowä Appliance, Ideal for Distalizing Maxillary Posterior Segments
Posted: October 29, 2005
The new Xbowä (Higgins Crossbow Class II Corrector) appliance, exclusively from Great Lakes, is an alternative to the Herbstâ appliance for treatment of Class II malocclusions in children and adolescents.  The Phase I appliance allows simultaneous anteroposterior and transverse correction.

The Xbow (Crossbow) pits the mandibular arch against the maxillary bicuspids and molars, which opens space for the erupting canines. Used in conjunction with 3M Unitek’s Forsusä Fatigue Resistant Device, the Xbow appliance allows overcorrection of the molars into a Class III relationship.

The appliance consists of a maxillary expansion appliance, Triple L Archä (lower labial lingual arch), Forsusä Fatigue Resistant  Device (25mm Direct Push Rod), and Gurin locks which allow for easy activation. The Forsusä Fatigue Resistant Device is available through 3M Unitek.
