Noted Speakers Highlight 31st Yankee Dental Congress January 25 Through January 29, 2006

Reaching Excellence is the theme of the 31st Yankee Dental Congress® (YDC),
New England’s largest dental meeting, which will be held January 25 through
January 29, 2006, at Boston’s Hynes Convention Center.
 
More than 27,000 dental health professionals are expected to attend the event, sponsored by the Massachusetts Dental Society, in cooperation with the Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont dental associations. YDC 31 offers over 980 exhibits and 600 courses for the dental professional.

On Friday evening, comedian-actor Jerry Seinfeld will be the celebrity entertainment at the new Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona will be the opening ceremony speaker on Thursday evening. Have lunch with America’s foremost sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer. In addition, Jodi Picoult, best-selling author of My Sister’s Keeper, Vanishing Acts, and The Pact will make a guest appearance.
 
 Among the featured dental and professional speakers at YDC 31 are:
 
Dr. Gordon Christensen, director of Practical Clinical Courses and founding member of Clinical Research Associates and author of hundreds of articles and books, will present “The Christensen ‘Bottom Line’- 2006.”
 
Dr. Henry Lee, chief emeritus of the Connecticut State Police Forensic Science Laboratory and investigator of more than 6,000 major crime cases worldwide including O.J. Simpson and Jon Benet Ramsey will speak on “Forensic Sciences.”
 
Dr. John Svirsky, diplomate of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a professor of oral pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, will present three lectures: “Drugs I Have Known and Loved for Diseases We Can Catch,” “Lumps, Bumps, and Lesions for All Seasons,” and “Cases Only a Mother Could Love.”

Dr. Kenneth Hargreaves, diplomate of American Association of Endodontics and professor and chair of the Department of Endodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, will speak on “Successful Management of Acute Dental Pain” and “Managing the Endodontic Infection.”
 
Dr. Tieraona Low Dog, director of botanical medicine for the program of integrative medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine and who serves on the advisory board for the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, will discuss “Medicine for the 21st Century: An Integrated Approach” and “Optimal Health for Women.”
 
Dr. Carl Misch, diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology and clinical professor and director of oral implantology at Temple University School of Dentistry, will present “Complications and Implant Dentistry” and instruct a hands-on course on “Posterior Single-Tooth Replacement.”
 
Dr. Robert Marx, diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and chairman of oral and maxillofacial surgery at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will lead the “Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty Symposium.”
 
Dr. Lysle Johnston, professor emeritus of orthodontics at Saint Louis University and a faculty member at the Case School of Dental Medicine and the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, will present “Growing Jaws for Fun and Profit” and “Extraction Versus Nonextraction: A Minority Report.”
 
Dr. J. Gary Maynard, diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology and a clinical professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, will talk on “Management of Class I and Class II Recession” and participate in a “Periodontics Specialty Symposium.”
 
Dr. Greg Psaltis, international lecturer and author and who maintains a private pediatric practice in Washington State, and Ms. Mary Ellen Psaltis, lifestyles and features writer, lecturer, and nutritional enthusiast, will discuss “Patients are People, Too.” Dr. Psaltis will also present at YDC’s Team Development Day, a daylong course designed especially for hygienists, assistants, and office personnel.
 
Mr. Joseph Piscatella, president of the Institute for Fitness & Health, host of three PBS specials, and a frequent guest on the Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America, and Fox News, will speak on “Living Healthy in a Doubleburger.com World.”
 
Ms. Robin Wright, a nationally recognized communications expert and president of Wright Communications, will present “Increase Treatment Acceptance,” “Answers to Tough Patient Questions,” and “Yes! Men and Women Can Communicate.
 
 
In addition to 600 courses, YDC 31 this year is offering its Education Continuum on “Functional Esthetics and Treatment Planning: Keys to Success.” During this two-day program, participants will become familiar with diagnosis and treatment planning of
esthetics related to ceramics, occlusion, implants, alternative treatments, benefits and risk of treatment, and oral health-related quality of life. Featured speakers include Dr. Ayman Aboushala, Dr Gary Alex, Dr. Robert Chapman, Dr. Norman Hammer, Dr. Timothy Hempton, Dr. Noshir Mehta, and Dr. Ronald Perry. Dr. Gerard Kugel will be the course director.

YDC 31 features admission to more than 90 free courses, as well as 12 alumni events, product samples from exhibitors, and computerized continuing education record keeping at the CE Pavilion.
