Unlocking the Potential of Large Language Models in Dentistry: A Scoping Review

Posted: December 1, 2024
This scoping review explores the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) in dentistry, aiming to evaluate their current use and potential in dental practice. The review includes 17 studies that primarily focused on post-operative patient queries utilizing ChatGPT. Different evaluation metrics were employed, with limited use of advanced prompting strategies. Most studies were at level 3 of LLM deployment, emphasizing practical application but needing refinement. The review underscores the need for diversified assessments across various LLMs, advanced prompting techniques, and standardized reporting practices to optimize LLM utility in dentistry.
