THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—Implant Direct announced that its Smartbase abutment has received 510(k) clearance for use with the Legacy and InterActive systems and is now available for sale in the United States. Smartbase CAD/CAM engaging abutments combine ideal aesthetics and more freedom of choice with screw-retained restorations.

“We’re pleased to be bringing the Smartbase platform to clinicians in the United States,” said Steve Clareen, business unit leader at Implant Direct. “With Smartbase you have the freedom to redirect the screw access channel from 0° to 25° for improved aesthetics and greater accessibility in the posterior where space can be limited.”

The abutment features a dual hue finish for enhanced aesthetics. The gold anodization allows for the use of more translucent restorative materials while the pink anodization of the titanium base offers a more natural blending with the gingival tissue. The concave transgingival profile shapes tissue growth for a thicker gingival cuff, reducing the chances of the abutment showing through and enables subcrestal placement.

The Smartbase abutment also supports a digital and conventional workflow. It is available in a variety of cuff heights and profile widths. With its floating screw option, the fixation screw can be pre-assembled into the base prior to placement for easier seating of the restoration.
