PHOENIX—The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) has announced that Dr. Scott Myers has joined the nonprofit as clinical dental director at its Delta Dental of Arizona Oral Health Center at the Virginia G. Piper Medical & Dental Clinic. Myers stepped into the role in May 2019 as Dr. Ken Snyder, former SVdP dental director, transitioned to a community outreach role as executive dental director for SVdP.
Myers comes to SVdP after 11 years of teaching at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, where he was director of the Comprehensive Care Unit and one of the co-directors for the Office of Clinical Education. Prior to that, he owned and operated a practice in central Phoenix for five years.
“St. Vincent de Paul is in good hands with Dr. Myers,” said Snyder, who will continue working in the clinic a couple days a week. “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him for years and I’m very excited about the level of passion, knowledge and experience he brings to the dental clinic.”
Back east, Myers completed postgraduate residencies in advanced dentistry and oral science at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and Morristown Memorial Hospital after graduating from the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia. He also holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry from Pittsburgh University.
“It’s an honor to follow in Dr. Snyder’s footsteps. He’s a fantastic role model and I am grateful to be able to embrace everything that he did but still be me,” Myers said. “In this role with St. Vincent de Paul, I get to do the things I’m really passionate about and help change people’s lives. It doesn’t get better than that.”
Myer’s transition into the new role comes at an opportune time as SVdP will be reopening its newly renovated and expanded dental clinic in July. The expansion transformed the eight-chair clinic to 16 which will allow them to provide about 4,000 additional patient visits per year on top of the 6,000 they already perform.
