A new app developed by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology emphasizes the early detection of and quick response to medical emergencies that can occur in the dental office.
The app allows dentists and their staff to keep track of drug doses and expiration dates and use patient information to calculate personalized drug doses. Crisis checklists assist in providing appropriate interventions with flow charts that evaluate emergency events such as allergic reactions, chest pain, chocking, hypertension, low blood sugar and more.
Featured as a “must-download” for health care professionals in MEDPAGE TODAY, the app — now in beta version — is the result of years of work by academic and clinical volunteers, the ADA reported last December.
Three sedation-level options are available when using the app: (1) minimal and moderate sedation, (2) moderate intravenous sedation and (3) deep sedation/general anesthesia and current in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support.
