Posted: June 14, 2005

The inaugural dean of Arizona’s first and the nation’s newest dental school Jack Dillenberg, D.D.S., MPH, recently received recognition for his contributions to the community from the Mesa Baseline Rotary Club. Dr. Dillenberg received the 2005 Citizen of the Year Award from the Club at its meeting held June 7, 2005 in Mesa.

“On behalf of the A.T. Still University family and East Valley communities, c

ongratulations to Dr. Dillenberg on this most deserving and recent honor,” noted ATSU Mesa Campus Provost Craig Phelps, D.O., FAOASM. “Over the course of his career, Dr. Dillenberg has created numerous public health and health care education campaigns helping make a difference in the lives of people throughout the country and for the citizens and underserved communities of Arizona. In addition, his guidance and leadership in opening Arizona’s largest dental clinic with a special emphasis on serving those in need helps the body, mind and spirit of those receiving care and we are fortunate to have his leadership and vision at A.T. Still University as dean of the nation’s newest dental school.”

The Rotary Club recognition marked the second annual presentation of the award started in 2004 by Rotary International with an effort for each Rotary Club to recognize a non-Rotarian in the community. The Mesa Baseline Rotary established its Citizen of the Year Award to recognize a community member who has made outstanding professional and community achievements while maintaining very high ethics. In addition, a recipient must demonstrate “Service Above Self” which is a long-standing Rotary statement. Service must be in addition to the requirements of his or her employment.

Citizen of the Year selection process includes nominations from Club members for a period of six months to the Club’s Board of Directors. Then, the board reviews each nomination to ensure it meets established qualifications and criteria. Finally, after review the Board votes upon the nominations and elects a worthy award recipient.
