At age 32, Calgary dentist Dr. Manu Dua noticed a lesion on the side of his tongue and texted a photo to his sister and fellow dentist, Dr. Parul Dua Makkar, who urged him to get a biopsy. He shrugged off the suggestion, thinking he was too young and healthy to be at risk for oral cancer; less than two years later, Dr. Makkar was speaking at her brother’s funeral.
