When Is a Full Rebrand Worth It for a Boutique Cosmetic Practice? | Dr. Brittany Dickinson | 628

“The most dangerous vendor isn’t necessarily a bad vendor. It’s a vendor whose work you don’t know how to verify.”

This came up in my conversation with Dr. Brittany Dickinson and I think it’s worth every practice owner thinking about.

Brittany had an established website that had ranked extremely well on Google.

She rebranded and launched a new site.

Traffic disappeared.

She was told SEO takes time.

So she waited.

Eventually she discovered a much bigger problem:

Most of the SEO value from the old website had never been properly connected to the new one.

She had been paying for SEO while her website produced essentially zero cosmetic consults for a year.

After fixing the issue herself with the help of AI, her website traffic jumped 400% overnight and generated 17 consults in the first month.

Here's what I learned:

1. “Never buy a result without defining what evidence should appear along the way.”

Before hiring someone, ask what success should look like at 30, 60, 90 and 180 days.

2. “A deadline tells you when to judge. A benchmark tells you whether to worry.”

“SEO takes six months” isn’t enough.

What should improve during those six months?

Impressions? Rankings? Traffic? Calls? Consults?

Ask.

3. “If you can’t inspect the work, at least learn how to inspect the proof.”

You don't need to know how to do SEO.

But you should know where the reports are, what changed, what was completed and what numbers indicate progress.

4. “Activity is not the same thing as alignment.”

Brittany discovered content was being created around general dentistry even though she was trying to attract cosmetic patients.

The vendor was doing something.

It just wasn’t moving toward the right destination.

5. “Your marketing should know what your practice stopped doing.”

This is an underrated audit.

Look at your website, Google Business Profile, social content and ads.

Do they represent the practice you operate today?

Or the practice you were 2–3 years ago?

6. “The owner doesn’t need every answer, but the owner needs better questions.”

Ask vendors:

What exactly did you do this month?

Where can I see it?

What changed because of it?

What isn't working?

What are we changing next?

7. “Trust becomes dangerous when curiosity disappears.”

Accountability isn’t micromanagement.

A good vendor should be able to explain what they’re doing in language the owner can understand.

8. “AI is useful when it helps the owner investigate, not just generate.”

One of the most interesting parts of Brittany’s story was that she wasn't primarily using AI to write captions.

She used it to analyze what had happened to her website and identify a problem she didn't know how to look for herself.

That’s a very different use case.

9. “The cheapest audit may be the one you do before spending another dollar.”

Before increasing the budget because results are weak, verify that the existing system is actually doing what everyone thinks it is doing.

10. “Outsource execution. Never completely outsource awareness.”

The owner doesn't need to personally perform every marketing task.

But someone inside the business should always know:

What are we paying for?

What should it produce?

Is it happening?

And what are we doing if it isn't?

This conversation with Brittany goes much deeper into the rebrand, AI, SEO, social media, fee-for-service dentistry and why she actually has zero interest in scaling her practice.
