Frauds, Risks, and Warning Signs to Look Out For

Lately, I’ve been receiving an increasing number of emails, invoices, and letters from clients that originate from unethical outside marketing companies.

I’ve come across advertisements disguised as invoices and numerous companies spamming my clients about supposed major Google changes, insisting they need to “be aware of this major change that is coming up!”

I even fell for a “free directory listing” scam myself, which turned out not to be free. Perhaps you’ve encountered this deceitful company; their logo looks like the YellowPages logo but is flipped upside down.

If you don’t fully understand what hosting entails, how your domain name is registered, or what a legitimate free listing looks like, you might fall victim to these scams. It’s also crucial to be aware of how your SEO company protects you from Google changes.

We take pride in our ethical SEO services, ensuring our clients are safeguarded from any changes Google implements. We never send out scare letters or emails about upcoming algorithm changes, urging you to “hire us or you’ll disappear off the internet!”

If you receive one of these messages, please forward it to us. We maintain a database of these scams to protect our clients from dishonest marketers.

Here’s an example to watch out for: a letter that made my client think she would lose her domain name if she didn’t renew it with them for $75, even though her current renewal fee is only $11, and she enjoys top Google rankings thanks to our SEO efforts. Companies like this use scare tactics. If a message makes you feel scared, don’t act on it.
