The course on Orthodontic Diagnosis and Treatment Planning encompasses the understanding and use of a problem list and how to integrate this in the clinical examination. It will help participants understand the historical methods of evaluating cephalometric X-rays and how to use soft tissue methods of constructing Visualized Treatment Objectives. Clinicians will view and understand how to construct occlusograms, and they will receive instruction about using the MDFL analysis. This course will emphasize the importance of individualizing patient diagnosis & treatment planning and avoiding predetermined and generalized formulas.
This course is intended for those with an intermediate knowledge of orthodontics.
Description of Speaker:
Dr. White graduated from Baylor Dental College with a DDS and MSD degree and then served in the United States Air Force for 2 years. Dr. White is a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, The Southwest Society of Orthodontists, The American Association of Orthodontists, the Texas Tweed Orthodontic Study Group, and a past-member of the Southwest Angle Orthodontic Society.
Dr. White is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists and a fellow in the American College of Dentists. He has been a director and president of the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists. He is a past president of the New Mexico Orthodontic Society and the Texas Tweed Study Group. He serves as manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics. He was editor of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics for 17 years. In 1988, Dr. White received the International College of Dentists Golden Scroll Award as editor of the most improved dental journal in dental literature (The Rocky Mountain Orthodontic Newsletter). Dr. White has contributed more than 100 original articles to dental literature and has presented lectures to several orthodontic societies, universities and study clubs. He has also lectured in over 35 countries throughout the world.
Dr. White is now Technology and New Product Editor for the World Journal of Orthodontics and a contributing editor for the Orthodontic CyberJournal. Dr. White is also Editor of the Dallas County Dental Society publication, Dateline. He now practices orthodontics in DeSoto, TX.
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to achieve the following:
- Recognize the historical methods of orthodontic cephalometric diagnosis and treatment planning
- Be able to use the orthodontic diagnosis & treatment planning techniques predicated on the soft tissue profile
- Construct and use occlusograms
- Construct and use Visualized Treatment Objectives
- Understand and use the MDFL analysis
- Understand and use a modified Steiner Box to assist in planning treatment
- Create a reasonable problem list upon examining orthodontic patients
