1. PROCTER & GAMBLE COMPANY’s Oral-B® brand has launched an interactive oral care App for children called the Disney Magic Timer App by Oral-B. This free application works on smart phones and tablets and connects to select Oral-B powered toothbrushes via Bluetooth. The firms noted that the intention is to make brushing a game.
2. DELTA DENTAL OF MINNESOTA FOUNDATION has allocated $2.0 million to its new Dedicated to Minnesota Dentist Program. The Foundation will provide up to $200,000 in student loan repayments for up to 10 dentists who agreed to practice in a designated dentist shortage area in the state.
3. OPTIMET in Israel commercialized the DSi 6000 Chairside digital scanner that can record impressions accurate beyond 100th of a millimeter. The firm noted that in spite of the high-technology nature of the product operators only require one hour of training. www.optimet.com
4. Brooke Shields took a selfie at the dentist last week. She turns 50 in May.
5. Tiger Woods was all over the news last week with this image, revealing a missing tooth.
6. Jonah White is one of the most successful novelty gift-makers in America. He is the creator of Billy Bob novelty teeth, with the help of a dental student, Rich Bailey. That was 20 years ago. Bailey went on to practice real dentistry and White has continued to expand his catalog of novelty items. Look for his show: Billy Bob’s Gags to Riches, on the Discovery Channel– it’s basically Shark Tank for rednecks.
