ROCK HILL, S.C.—Komet USA has expanded its line of DCB diamond abrasives to include three yellow grinders engineered to remove more substance than the original green abrasives.

Created as a complement to the line, the new versions are suitable for use on all-ceramic materials, including zirconium dioxide and lithium disilicate, as well as on hard, nonprecious alloys, such as cobalt-chrome (CoCr). The new, coarser configurations include the flame-shape grinder (DCB1CA), a round-cylinder shape (DCB8CA) for use on large surfaces such as crown margins and an inverted-cone (DCB9CA) for occlusal, interdental, and basal work.

The yellow grinders are the first instruments produced through a Komet manufacturing process that results in an optimal bond and provides an activated surface to ensure initial sharpness. With interspersed diamonds on the working components, the grinders feature stable edges and shapes while providing maximal substance removal and an extended service life. Like their predecessors, the new instruments permit soft, gentle work without the need to apply pressure. Following grinding, a two-step diamond-polishing procedure can be employed to finish the procedure.

To maximize the advantages of the DCB line, users are encouraged to operate the abrasives at 10,000 to 12,000 RPM with low pressure to prevent heat build-up. In addition, it is best to work on larger areas and to avoid concentrating on the same spot for a prolonged period. For cooling, a wet sponge can be applied to the prosthesis during treatment.
