CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.—Great Expressions Dental Centers (GEDC) dentist, Dr. Shana Hernandez, recently traveled to Nagua, Dominican Republic for a three-day mission trip with 60 professional peers to offer dental care and treatment to students at four schools. The group of dentists provided oral health care to nearly 2,000 children and donated dental supplies to the local dentist office to support continued care. For most of the children, it was their first dental visit.

“Healthy teeth and gums are vital to overall health, so it is essential to teach children appropriate dental hygiene practices,” said Hernandez, a pediatric dentist at GEDC’s Coral Springs – Atlantic Blvd location. “In addition to teaching children the importance of proper dental hygiene, my trip to the Dominican Republic gave me an opportunity to provide the necessary dental supplies to support continued efforts moving forward.”

During her trip, Hernandez, the only pediatric dentist on-site, provided a wide range of services, including fillings, extractions, and preventative treatment. GEDC team members are highly specialized in the field of pedodontic dentistry.

“We are proud of Dr. Hernandez’s volunteer efforts supporting children and families locally, and in this case, around the world.” said Richard Beckman, CEO of GEDC. “Children deserve to have a smile they are excited to show, and we are honored to have professionals on our team that share that same mindset.”
