ORANGE, Calif.—Western Dental & Orthodontics, one of the nation’s leaders in accessible, affordable, high-quality oral health care, announced the appointment of Dr. John Luther as its chief dental officer. Luther, who joined Western Dental on August 22, has enjoyed a distinguished career in the dental profession for more than 30 years as a champion for superior dental care and service excellence.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Dr. Luther to the Western Dental team,” said Daniel D. Crowley, chairman and chief executive officer of Western Dental and its affiliate, Brident Dental & Orthodontics. “His experience, expertise, and leadership qualities will be a tremendous help as we continue to build Western Dental and Brident into the country’s leading integrated full-service dental and orthodontics organization that offers convenient, affordable, high-quality care to everyone.”

Luther will represent dentists as a member of the senior management team and will be responsible for leading Western Dental’s dental policy, clinical quality, practice standards, and best practices programs.

“It is exciting to join a dynamic, transitioning organization like Western Dental that has both the vision and the essential ingredients to be a truly great company,” Luther said. “There is an opportunity for Western Dental to fill a unique role as a national leader in affordable, accessible, high-quality care with great service in a group practice setting. I believe the company and its management team are committed to that vision, and I am pleased to become a part of it.”

Prior to joining Western Dental, Luther served as the chief dental officer/senior vice president, dental management for DentaQuest, the third-largest oral health enterprise in the country. Before that, he was the chief dental officer for UnitedHealthcare Dental, where he was responsible for the development of consumer-driven solutions that supported quality of care and managed costs. He provided strategic direction for network management, disease management and wellness programs, including those impacting early childhood.

Luther’s career also includes five years with the American Dental Association, serving as senior vice president, overseeing the division of dental practice. He also spent several years with Delta Dental of California and served as dental director for Dentistat in Saratoga, California. Previously he owned and operated a successful private dental practice for 15 years in Placentia, California.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of Southern California, Luther earned a DDS from Northwestern University School of Dentistry.
