CS 8100 Family Reaches Major Milestone—More than 10,000 Systems Sold

DENVER—The CS 8100, which was introduced in 2012 by Carestream Dental, supports the day-to-day panoramic imaging needs of small practices, including segmented panoramic, TMJ and maxillary sinus imaging.

“Innovation runs in the CS 8100 Family’s ‘genes’,” said Ed Shellard, DMD, the company's vice president of sales and marketing.

As of September 2016, more than 10,000 CS 8100 Family systems had been sold, enhancing the workflow of thousands of doctors and improving the oral health of even more patients around the world. Within a year of its launch, the CS 8100 earned six clinical and design awards from countries around the world.

“Over the past four years, we’ve built on the success of the original design concept of the CS 8100 by developing a 3D imaging unit—the CS 8100 3D extraoral imaging system—and a scanning cephalometric unit—the CS 8100SC panoramic and cephalometric imaging system. Today, the CS 8100, CS 8100 3D and CS 8100SC make up the CS 8100 Family," said Shellard.

After the launch of the CS 8100, Carestream Dental engineers soon realized that doctors were looking for the benefits of in-office cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) without having to sacrifice valuable office space. The CS 8100 3D was introduced in 2014 as Carestream Dental’s solution—it has the same small footprint and 2-D imaging capabilities of the CS 8100 but with the added benefits of 3-D imaging and 3-D model scanning.

“Some of my favorite features are its compact size, multi-function 2-D/3-D imaging and easy, mistake-free acquisition—I've taken over 50 scans so far and have never missed the area of interest,” said Peter Kapsimalis, DMD, of Summit , N.J. “Not only does the unit feature quick scan times and distortion-free images, it’s also easy for my staff to position patients, and their comfort level really puts my patients at ease.”

The CS 8100 Family grew again in 2015 with the introduction of the CS 8100SC. Advanced Carestream Dental imaging software recognizes anatomical structures and traces them automatically and can go from scanning to tracing within 90 seconds.
