It's the last month of the summer for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere.
Enjoy it by sitting on your outdoor patio and watching Dentaltown CE on your
iPad (or other portable device).
We've had some excellent additions to Dentaltown's online CE roster.
Anyone want some Dr. Frank Spear CE on Dentaltown? Yes! I am excited
to announce the Spear Education Series of Online CE on Dentaltown. The first
excellent offering is he first one is from Dr. Scott MacLean called The Spear Education Series of Online CE on
Dentaltown: Connecting Teeth & Implants by Dr. Frank Spear. Never do it
or never fear? For most restorative dentists connecting teeth and implants can
be very confusing. What are the risks and benefits to connecting? When is it safe
and when is it not indicated? This course teaches the mechanics of connection
and the risks associated with it. There are times when connecting teeth and
implants is necessary or even preferable to other options available for the success
of the restorative dentistry. Those situations are discussed and illustrated by
Dr. Frank Spear with case successes and failures shown to give a thorough
understanding of what to do and what not to do.
Also released in June was The Lease: The Dentist's Forgotten Asset by
Jason Wood, BA, JD. This course is designed to educate the dentist on the
intricacies of a commercial lease and educate what is contained in the lease
they will be signing in connection with the ownership of their dental practice.
An in-depth investigation into the many provisions that can materially harm
a dentist in connection with a future sale, or impact the goodwill the dentist
will be generating at the practice is discussed, as well as numerous other provisions
that can negatively impact their dental practice. The goal of this presentation
is to equip each dentist with a thorough understanding of the
commercial lease as it has evolved (and continues to evolve) in ways that
might materially harm the dentist's future financial wellbeing. Don't miss
Jason's other highly acclaimed course on Dentaltown - Associates,
Partnerships, Acquisitions, Oh My!
We have had great reviews on the recent addition to Dentaltown CE by Dr.
Chris Griffin, High Velocity (Quality!) Dentistry. A high velocity dentist is one
who strives to be faster and more efficient, but in a way that adds no stress or
chaos to the workday and without reducing quality. Every aspect of workflow
choreography is discussed from attracting new patients, answering the phone,
treatment presentation, how to efficiently do a root canal, build up and crown,
and having the patient leave happy. This gives the patient the optimal experience
while yielding amazing benefits by creating a dental practice that is able to almost
effortlessly increase daily production by performing procedures more efficiently
without decreasing quality or increasing stress.
This course will review all the possible ways that current practice systems
can be improved or modified to give the patient a first-class experience and yield
a decreased workload for the entire dental team. Discussed are the challenges
(both practice management and clinical) that are most commonly seen as dentists
try to improve practice workflow choreography and the best ways to form
a plan to take action and improve practice life for all parties - the staff, the
patients and the doctor.
Dr. Josh Wren, a regular Dentaltown poster and pedodontist has released
his first CE course, Simple Space Maintenance, for Dentaltown (and more will
follow). This course teaches why space maintenance is needed, when to place
what appliance and how to fabricate the various appliances. Space maintainers
to be discussed include: wire nance, lower lingual holding arch (LLHA), band
and loop, distal shoe and distal band and loop. Our basic goal as dentists treating
children is to prevent decay, pain, space loss, etc.). The most commonly
overlooked of these is the prevention of space loss.
The webinar that was live on Dentaltown last month - The Five Keys to
Ideal Class II Contacts featuring 3M Filtek and the Bioclear Matrix System
by Dr. David Clark - is now in the online CE archives. Contacts for Class II
composites can be a practice builder or a practice killer. Until now there has not
been a methodical approach to provide ideal contacts and embrasures for posterior
composites. Even when the contact is tight, it is often a "point" contact,
ragged and sharp. In this entertaining and practical lecture, Dr. David Clark
demonstrates a predictable step-wise approach to solve this riddle of ideal contacts
for:
- Tight embrasures
- Deep caries
- Furcal complications
- Wide embrasures and diastema closures in the posterior
Local Anesthesia in Dentistry and Considerations for Mandibular Anesthetic Success by Jason Goodchild is now available to be viewed on
Dentaltown. Perhaps no other advancement has altered the provision of dentistry
than the development of safe and effective local anesthesia. Dental practitioners
and patients have benefited from increasingly safe and effective agents
for the control of surgical pain. In part one of the course, the history of local
anesthetics is reviewed with a focus on the reasons why early solutions were
inadequate, and what prompted the search for better agents. The maximum
dosages and indications for currently available local anesthetic formulations are
presented. Additional topics discussed are: safety of local anesthetics during
pregnancy and lactation, and the signs and symptoms or local anesthetic overdose
and strategies for management. In part two of the course, considerations
for conventional inferior alveolar nerve block are discussed. Many factors can
influence the success or failure of the IANB, and achieving consistent positive
outcomes can be challenging. By reviewing local factors such as pH/pka, influence
of fear and anxiety, and anatomic landmarks and variability, practitioners
can gain confidence in their clinical knowledge and technique.
And of course we have available here on Dentaltown, Dr. Howard Farran's
One Day Dental MBA. Dr. Farran shares his proven techniques to increase
your productivity, boost your bottom line and build your business. Don't miss
his live and unfiltered insights on dentistry and business along with an insider's
view of his dental practice.
Enjoy learning from the comfort of your home!
