Dentists Need Patients to See Their Posts Before They Can Engage With Them

Moreover, are you a dentist that posts high-quality, relevant content that patients want to engage with?

If so, good on ya!

If not, check out this post to see what types of content you need to be posting to your dental practice Facebook page.

But, just posting high-quality, relevant and engaging content won’t ensure that your patients (who already Like your page) see every post from your dental practice Facebook page.

To ensure you’re a dentist on Facebook doing everything you can to get through to your patients, you can put in some extra work – and show them how to easily prioritize your content in their News Feed.

Let’s see how we can get your dental-centric Facebook page posts a little more love from your patients.

How Dentists on Facebook Get Every Post Seen By Patients First

Show Patients How to See Your Content First

Sure, Facebook Ads for dentists can get patients to see more of your content but who wants to pay to have patients see one of your blog posts?

An offer, sure. An event sign-up, absolutely. A post to generate referrals or reviews, yup. But a blog post, nah, not worth it. That’s one reason why Boosted Posts sucks, but that’s another conversation.

Dentists don’t need to run Facebook Ads in order to get their page content seen by their patients.

Did you know that there is a Facebook setting that allows you to control which content in your News Feed you want to see most?

Maybe you want to see more content from your supplier, or from the AACD, or from your favorite sports team…whatever it is, you can make a simple change to your News Feed setting to accomplish this.

And you can show your patients how to prioritize your dental practice Facebook page in their personal News Feed, in order to get more of your content seen by them.

Remember, first they need to see it – only then can they engage with it.

Despite the recent changes to our collective Facebook News Feeds, Facebook still allows users the ability to select the friends and pages they want to see first, at the top of their News Feed.

Dentists Can Show Patients How to Make Them First In Their Facebook News Feed

DISCLAIMER: I personally do not feel this is imperative for every dental office Facebook page, in fact I think it’s more than a little presumptuous, and can be taken (from your patients) as rude & self-serving.

But…it can be helpful for dentist running contests on Facebook. And if you’re a dentist on Facebook, you should be running contests!

So, we’ll leave it up to you as to whether you prompt your patients to enable their personal News Feed to see more of your Facebook page content.

We just wanted to show dentists how to do it….so you can show your biggest fans how to do it themselves.

As a Facebook user, activating the Get Notifications & See First features is easy.

  1. Go to the Facebook page you want to get notifications from
  2.
  3. Hover over the Following button (you must Like a page to get notifications)
  4.
  5. Choose your visibility & notification settings

That’s it!

Now you’ll receive a notification on your personal profile each time the page posts a Facebook update.

And if you want your patients to see EVERY SINGLE post you post from your dental practice Facebook page, just ask them to turn on “Get Notifications” for your page.

As a result, whenever you update your page, more of your patients (and page followers) will get the chance to Like, share, comment, or otherwise engage with your posts.

How Dentists On Facebook Prioritize Their News Feed Content

Here’s how to do it in mobile:

Now, we all know that if you’re not first, you’re last, so here’s how you can choose which page content to see first in your News Feed….and how you can show patients how to make you first in their News Feed.

Go to the page you want to want to prioritize in your News Feed,

Then hover your mouse over the “Following” button, you’ll see this window popup:

Click on the little pencil icon to edit your preferences, it it doesn’t matter which little pencil icon you click, it leads to the same place.

You can choose how you’d like to prioritize content from the page in your News Feed, and you can also choose what content you see from the page. Here’s what it looks like:

Click the “Done” button and you’re done.

Should Dentists On Facebook Ask Patients To Prioritize Them On Facebook?

Again, it depends. And it’s up to you.

In most cases, unless patients have a definitive reason to prioritize your content in their News Feed they’ll probably just ignore the request anyway.

But, if you tactfully ask and show patients how to make sure they see your page content in their News Feed, and give them a reason why they should, it’s a sure-fire way to make sure they see everything you post…damn the Facebook News Feed updates!

Why Would Patients Want to Prioritize Content From Their Dentist On Facebook?

Maybe they have a kick-ass dentist that they just can’t get enough of, or maybe said kick-ass dentists publishes a lot of engaging local content that is of interest to them.

Or maybe their dentist runs referral & review contests a few times a year, and maybe that dentist offers some pretty awesome prizes to the winners of those contests.

Then, maybe patients would want to see their dentist first in their personal Facebook News Feeds!

One thing is certain, if it makes sense for patients to do so, then they’ll do it. It’s up to the dentists on Facebook to make sense to their patients.
