Back in 1980, in my first year of Dental school at Baylor College of dentistry, I had the foresight to engage my dad to co-venture on my first real estate property investment.
He was the capital and credit partner, I was the managing partner.
Now, I also went through the long 4 years of Dental school just like you did.
I was trained and licensed to perform a highly technical skill.
Something else happened in that time… I was brainwashed.
I was brainwashed into fearing making any kind of mistake or error.
In fact, as dentists, we live our lives in fear of so many things because of the way we were taught to never make a mistake.
Well, fortunately for me, getting involved in real estate gave me an “out of the box’ mindset.
I was around other entrepreneurs who thought differently than how I was taught to do in dentistry.
Now, that doesn’t mean that we can let down our guard and not be as “perfectionist oriented” as we can be when dealing with our patients in the mouth… but we can’t live our lives like that everyday.
Outside the oral cavity, we’ve got to be an alternative mindset thinker. We must allow ourselves to take some risk and to try things differently- instead of staying inside that comfort zone that was created for us way back in Dental school and in our early years.
For me, being around other entrepreneurs outside of dentistry was the whole key to my success.
I developed another attitude about life and what I need to do besides just being a dentist.
Yes, being a dentist can be satisfying.
But for most dentists, the 96% - is not enough. Our profession – while earning us a high active income trading time dollars – often does not provide the opportunity to create security financial freedom or peace of mind for our families. The industry has changed what Dental school taught us to do, unfortunately, doesn’t cut it anymore.
You MUST create a Plan B including alternative lifetime sustainable incomes like the passive income and wealth I enjoy from real estate.
