PHOENIX—The U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) has updated and replaced its 1962 Drinking Water Standards related to community water fluoridation.

For communities that add fluoride to their water systems, PHS recommends an optimal fluoride concentration of 0.7 mg/L (parts per million) to maintain caries prevention benefits and reduce the risk of dental fluorosis.
