The Wand STA: 21st-Century Local Anesthesia
The Real Access to Care The Real Access to Care

Single-tooth anesthesia made easy.

Milestone Scientific, manufacturer of the original Wand computer- assisted anesthetic delivery instrument, has introduced the Wand STA System as an alternative to the 165-year-old technology of the traditional dental syringe.

The Wand STA produces a precise, consistent flow of anesthetic below the patient’s pain threshold, and is designed to improve the injection process for both dentist and patient. It incorporates an ergonomically designed, lightweight plastic handpiece that offers dentists unprecedented control of the attached bonded needle. The handpieces are available in three needle sizes, which will allow all traditional and newly discovered innovative injections. Dentists also can shorten the plastic handpiece, making it invisible to patients who are fearful about the injection process.

The Wand STA helps dentists administer intraligamentary injections with confidence and comfort. Its unique feature, dynamic pressure sensing, delivers audio and visual feedback during the injection, enabling dentists to administer more comfortable, more precise injections. There is no collateral numbness of the lip, face or tongue after the procedure.

The ability to anesthetize a single tooth is a tremendous enhancement to any dental practice; for example, patients who have to return to work will appreciate being able to do so without numb lips and tongues.

Some dentists and patients become anxious during palatal injections, which can be difficult to administer and can be painful to the patient. With the Wand STA, dentists can offer innovative, comfortable palatal injections, such as the AMSA and P-ASA, using a pre-puncture technique, followed by delivery of a controlled flow of anesthetic below the patient’s pain threshold. These successful palatal injections anesthetize multiple teeth and related gingival tissues without producing collateral numbness to the patient’s lip or face. These are great injections for cosmetic dentistry, allowing immediate assessment of the patient’s smile line.

While STA stands for “single tooth anesthesia,” dentists shouldn’t limit their use of the Wand STA; it can be used to deliver every type of injection. For dentists who’ve been missing their mandibular block injections, the Wand STA can be the solution to achieving more success. Because a birotational insertion technique can be used with the handpiece, the Wand STA needle doesn’t deflect the way a traditional dental syringe needle does. Hence the needle will arrive closer to the injection site, which produces a faster onset and a more accurate and successful block injection.

The Wand STA’s other features include “cruise control” and multi- cartridge. To learn more about the STA system, visit thewand.com or call 800-862-1125.
