Released recently on Dentaltown:
Understanding Occlusion…
by Dr. John Nosti
Occlusion remains one of the most confusing topics in dentistry today, because of differing opinions on the importance of dictating restorative positions on each and every patient. To compound this issue, restorative failures still occur, despite the clinician's skill in meeting the "occlusal philosophies" of the camps teaching strict occlusal restorative positions. Join Dr. John Nosti as he defines occlusion, simplifies common occlusion terminology and reviews the occasions for which restorative positions should and should not be used. Learn when occlusion truly matters!
Minimally Invasive Esthetic
Dentistry: An Oxymoron?
by Dr. Arthur Volker
Minimally invasive dentistry is a hot topic: It's very easy to talk about taking away less tooth structure, but more difficult to apply this concept to achieve predictable esthetic and functional results. This course aims to give clinicians the tools needed to successfully and immediately expand the use of minimally invasive dentistry in daily practice.
The Power of Solo Dentist
in PPO Negotiations
by Sandi Hudson
This course is meant to prepare the solo practitioner to take back control of insurance participation and contracting by understanding which companies may be negotiated with and how to tailor negotiations to best fit your practice. We explain how individual negotiations can be just as good as, if not better than, corporate negotiations, and how to look beyond direct contracting to shared network agreements, to capitalize on the highest-paying options. Learn why it's important to have your full/cash fees set appropriately, how to focus negotiations on the top codes in your practice, how shared network agreements have changed the game and how to work them to your advantage. We encourage you to remain optimistic about the power of the solo practice, and not to buy into the idea that all corporations are getting better deals than solo practices.
Esthetic Denture Construction
for the Older Patient
by Dr. Arnold Liebman
Older patients whose treatment plan includes dentures will have an increase in their ability to chew and enjoy their food. Learn how to re-establish face form, function and esthetics. Techniques are described that work when these issues are present, which will make it easier and more predictable to achieve success—and in less time. The course emphasizes relating the increase in function and esthetics when a patient receives new dentures to an increase in overall health and enjoyment in eating. Because older patients are such a large demographic, the lecture covers how to market and get more fee-for-service patients from this population in to our offices.
Fundamentals of Fixed Prosthodontics
by Dr. Lane Ochi
When we combine the narratives of art and science, we must think of the skill set necessary to fabricate predictable and long-lasting indirect restorations. Successfully treating our patients with fixed prosthodontics mandates that we have not only a comprehensive understanding of materials, but also a mastery of mechanical concepts and a healthy respect for the remaining tooth structure.
In no other field of dentistry can real improvement in outcomes be as directly attributed to attention to detail and execution. Just as important as technical improvement is developing an awareness of how our choices interact—including in preparation design, margin configuration, the use of a core buildup or post, as well as in our luting agent selection.
At the end of the day, we cannot afford failures in our treatment. Costs lost to time, remakes and patient confidence are not something we strive for. After viewing this course, you will have a set of data points that will allow you to identify the cause of failures so you can prevent them from recurring.
Pediatric Dentistry: Anesthesia, Pulp Therapy, and Stainless-Steel Crowns
by Dr. Josh Wren
With the Affordable Care Act mandating dental coverage for those under 19, more than 3 million pediatric patients may be added to 150,000 dental practices. Treating children may become a necessity for your dental office. Pulp therapy and stainless-steel crowns are procedures that are often considered complex when performed on pediatric patients.
This course will alleviate any fear of the unknown that leads to this misconception. Indirect pulp therapy, pulpotomy and pulpectomy will be discussed, with emphasis on diagnosis and technique. Stainless-steel crowns will also be discussed and procedural steps thoroughly explained and shown. Neither pulp therapy nor stainless-steel crowns are possible without effective anesthetic techniques, so this course also discusses Dr. Wren's process for the utilization of nitrous oxide, appropriate topical anesthesia and local anesthesia in order to achieve a truly painless injection, 100 percent of the time. If you are treating children in your practice, this course is a must!
